Grilled Cheese Sandwich |
Servings: 1
Ingredients:
• Whole grain bread | 2 slices | |
• Mayonnaise | 1 Tbsp | |
• Cheese | 2 slices | |
• Butter | touch | |
Reverse Columns |
Directions:
- Heat up a cast iron griddle or fry pan to a low heat (3). If it is any hotter, bread will burn before the cheese melts.
- Apply mayonnaise on the insides of both slices.
- Add the 2 slices cheese and close the sandwich.
- Very lightly, butter the top slice on the outside. Put this buttered side face down on the griddle then butter the outside of the exposed bottom slice. The butter will conduct the heat from the griddle and give a toasted texture to the bread. No butter is too bland, too much and it burns easily.
- Grill until lightly toasted, then flip with a spatula.
- When done, put on a cutting board and slice in half with one downward motion of a chef's knife. (Don't try to saw it with a bread knife)
Notes:
This is an American classic and a favorite with the kids. Serve with the traditional tomato soup. The boxed tomato soups are far superior to the canned tomato soups.
Use any favorite cheese of your choice; jack, cheddar, provolone or Swiss all work. I like to use 1 slice of jack and 1 slice of cheddar. Select a real cheese and not the sliced "Cheese Foods". Two slices of cheese provide 10g of protein.
